Christ the Redeemer is an Art Deco statue of Jesus located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, created by French-Polish sculptor Paul Landowski and constructed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa, in collaboration with French engineer Albert Caquot.
The statue stands atop Corcovado Mountain, which is part of Tijuca National Park, offering a stunning backdrop.
The face was sculpted by Romanian artist Gheorghe Leonida. Inaugurated on October 12, 1931, it has since become a global symbol of Christianity.
Built between 1922 and 1931, the statue stands 30 meters (98 ft) tall, excluding its 8-meter (26 ft) pedestal. Visitors can take a train ride through the rainforest to reach the statue, enjoying breathtaking views along the way.
The arms extend 28 meters (92 ft) wide. This remarkable structure has been designated as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and is made of reinforced concrete and soapstone.
